Getting started

Your first prompt

TreadLightlyAI is a thinking tool: a place to work through questions and ideas with an AI that shows you what every answer costs.

To start, type your prompt and send it. The defaults, the Balanced thinking mode and the Green Small model, suit most questions. When you want a different angle, see when to use each mode and which model to pick.

The tagline, think hard and prompt light, is an operating instruction, not a slogan. Think hard: work out what you want before you ask, then give the AI enough context, meaning what you want, why, and anything it could not know on its own. Prompt light: pick the lightest model that will do the job, and skip the prompt when you can answer the question yourself.

Responses arrive complete, in one piece, with an energy number attached. You can even see an estimate before you send.

Write a better prompt

A rough draft is a fine place to start. Open the plus menu next to the input and let the AI improve your prompt before it goes:

  • Refine prompt fixes grammar, spelling and punctuation without changing what you said. Use it when the wording is rough but the prompt is right.
  • Rewrite prompt expands and enhances the whole prompt. Use it when you want to give the AI as much as possible to work with.

Not what you meant? Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) undoes an improvement before you send. Better prompts get better answers, and they use less energy: a clear question needs fewer follow-ups.

Install the app

TreadLightlyAI installs straight from the browser, no app store needed. Add it to your home screen and it opens full screen with its own icon, like any other app.

  • iPhone and iPad: in Safari, tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen".
  • Android: tap the browser menu, then "Add to Home screen".
  • Desktop: in Chrome or Edge, click the install icon in the address bar.
